Diagnostic Testing

Years ago, women with abnormal uterine bleeding had to have a hysterectomy as that was their only option. Enter diagnostic tests and alternative surgery. With this series of diagnostic tests many women today have an excellent chance to avoid a hysterectomy because abnormalities can be discovered and treated with less invasive approaches. Thankfully ladies, in this day and age, we have alternative treatment options! :)

I put this page up in hopes that I could stress the importance of getting the proper pre-endometrial ablation diagnostic testing done. The reason for this is simple: some of these tests will give your doctor a direct look at the uterine lining and will help him/her determine the cause of the abnormal uterine bleeding/pain and show the doctor if you are a good candidate for an endometrial ablation or not.

It is always best to have some of these tests performed, and granted some of these diagnostics are more than mere 'tests', but rather, minor surgery for diagnostic purposes. I had almost all of these performed in the course of two years, yet no cause for my abnormal bleeding was discovered. Do I regret having them performed? Absolutely not! ;) {Okay, it was no picnic, but is was important} My doctors (I saw many for this problem) were able to thoroughly evaluate my uterus and declare that I was an excellent candidate for an endometrial ablation. I feel it is really important to try to find a cause for the bleeding/pain and see if a non-surgical approach can work, but if medication is not well tolerated and/or it does not help and surgery is required, there fortunately are many alternative surgeries today to consider before having to resort to a hysterectomy.

So please ladies, discuss this with your own doctor and do your research. If you are here reading this, well good for you for doing your research! :) Knowledge is power. ;)
